David J. Pezzullo - Director of Physical Therapy

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Connecticut and an Advanced Masters of Science degree in Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh. Dave is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist by the American Physical Therapy Association and is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association as an athletic trainer. Dave has served as an athletic trainer/physical therapist for the University of Rhode Island Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Teams since 2007 and 2014 respectively. He also has served as a physical therapist and an assistant athletic trainer for the Providence Bruins Hockey Team of the AHL since 2011. He has published several peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and delivered presentations at several national professional conferences. Musculoskeletal rehabilitation of the shoulder, knee, spine, foot and ankle are Dave's area of expertise and clinical interest.

Physical Therapist - Stacy Faiola

Site Coordinator

Stacy Faiola is a Physical Therapy Site Coordinator at our Kettle Point location in East Providence. Stacy received a Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac College in New Haven, Connecticut. She has been working at University Orthopedics since 1996. Stacy is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Her clinical interests include both post-operative and non-operative sports medicine rehabilitation in adult and adolescent populations.

Physical Therapist - Kevin Mahoney

Site Coordinator

Kevin Mahoney is the Physical Therapy Site Coordinator at our Kettle Point Campus. He joined University Orthopedics in 2013. His clinical interests and expertise include non-operative and post-surgical rehabilitation of the shoulder, hip, and knee, as well as manual therapy. Kevin has a strong background in athletic training having worked as a certified athletic trainer in Division I college athletics for 9 years before pursuing his physical therapy degree. Kevin received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Rhode Island after completing a Masters of Education in Health Occupations from North Carolina State University and Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Colby-Sawyer College.

Physical Therapist - Dan Bien

Dan Bien is a physical therapist at our Kettle Point Campus in East Providence. Dan has worked at University Orthopedics since 2006 and serves as the Coordinator of Clinical Education for the physical therapy department. He received a Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Villanova University. Dan is currently recognized as an Orthopedic Certified Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a Credentialed Clinical Instructor by the American Physical Therapy Association. Dan completed a sports medicine physical therapy residency at the University of Cincinnati where he worked extensively with collegiate athletes. He has presented nationally on multiple topics related to rehabilitation of the knee and shoulder. Additionally, Dan has published peer-reviewed journal articles on ACL rehabilitation and injury prevention, and performs related clinical research activities.

Physical Therapist - Paul Burke

Paul Burke is a staff physical therapist at the Kettle Point campus. Paul brings two decades of experience as a Physical Therapist to University Orthopedics Center for Spine Health as a Spine Specialist.  He received a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from MGH Institute of Health Professions, Master of Science in Physical Therapy from University of Miami, and Bachelor of Science from Villanova University.  Paul pursued additional certifications to enhance his clinical practice, teaching, and patient outcomes including: Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics (OCS), Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (Cert MDT), Dry Needling Certification, Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), Titleist Performance Institute Certified (TPI), and Yoga teacher (YogaWorks, 200 hour).

Paul serves as an Adjunct Instructor at Brown University in the Summer@Brown program.  He developed the curriculum for his two course offerings: Science of Running and Secrets of Elite Performance and Sports Injury and Rehabilitation.  He has taught the practical application of anatomy for yoga teacher trainings at Down Under Yoga and YogaWorks. Paul has developed a mentorship program for two physical therapy companies to advance orthopedic expertise for physical therapists pursuing Board Certification as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics.

Paul integrates an active patient treatment approach within an evidence-based practice.  From his own participation and study in running, yoga, pilates, golf, and strength training, he offers an analysis on form, a pathway to recover from injury, and consultation on return to activity.  When not working, Paul spends his time in Providence, RI with his wife and daughter.

Physical Therapist - Mike Coyne

Mike Coyne is a staff physical therapist at the Kettle Point campus. Mike graduated from American International College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2015 and received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from American International College in 2017. Mike completed his final clinical education at University Orthopedics. Mike was also a five-year member of the AIC baseball team. Mike’s clinical interests include orthopedic and sports injuries, specifically those to the knee and shoulder.

Physical Therapist - Jennifer Davis

Jennifer joined the University Orthopedics Kettle Point location in the spring of 2016. A former professional ballet dancer, Jennifer specializes in Dance Injury Rehabilitation and Prevention. Jennifer enjoyed 18 years of performing dance all over the United States, Europe and China before retiring as a soloist from Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre in 1996. She went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Dance from Empire State College, S.U.N.Y and a Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy from The University of Rhode Island in 2001. Jennifer developed and implemented an Injury Prevention program for the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre school and company where she worked closely with Physicians and Physical Therapists at the University of Pittsburgh Sports Medicine. Jennifer has treated the cast of “A Chorus Line” and “Hairspray” backstage at the Providence Performing Arts Center and has worked with countless student and professional dancers from local studios including Festival Ballet Providence. She has been certified in Pilates exercise training and utilizes Pilates equipment and principals in conjunction with manual therapy for physical therapy assessment and treatment. She is a longtime member of International Association for Dance Medicine and Science and serves on the board of the Dance Alliance of Rhode Island. She is most proud of her daughter Olivia and loves to swim, dance and sail during her free time.

Physical Therapist - Tom Dubuque

Tom Dubuque is a physical therapist at our Kettle Point facility. Tom graduated from Springfield College in 2003 with a Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy. He is recognized as a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He is also recognized as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. His clinical interests include non-operative and post-operative rehabilitation of the shoulder, knee, and hip. He is also a Sports Medicine provider for Brown University Athletics.

Physical Therapist - Val Gareau

Val Gareau is a physical therapist at our Kettle Point location in East Providence. She received a Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University. Val joined University Orthopedics in 2009. Prior to UOI, Val spent over 3 years treating orthopedic and sports medicine injuries at an outpatient physical therapy clinic in New York City. Val's clinical interests and expertise is in the rehabilitation of non-operative conditions and post-operative procedures of the shoulder, knee, and ankle.

Physical Therapist - Mike McGee

Mike McGee is a physical therapist at the Kettle Point Campus in East Providence. Mike joined University Orthopedics after graduating from Springfield College in 2013. He received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Springfield while also competing as a member of Springfield's club hockey and collegiate tennis teams. His clinical interests are in the area of sports medicine and musculoskeletal rehabilitation in adult and adolescent populations.

Physical Therapist - Matt Medieros

Matt Medieros is a staff Physical Therapist at the Kettle Point Campus. Matt graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences in 2010. Matt went on to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the University of Hartford and graduated in May of 2013. Matt completed his final clinical education at University Orthopedics. Matt’s clinical interests are orthopedic and sports medicine.

Physical Therapist - Jaclyn Plante

Jaclyn is a staff physical therapist at the Kettle Point office. She attended Quinnipiac University, completing her Bachelor of Science in Health and Science Studies in May 2013, and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in September 2016. Her clinical interests include orthopedic conditions and the use of manual therapy techniques. Outside of work she is an avid college hockey fan.

Physical Therapist - Terry Moreno Toste

Terry Moreno Toste is the Assistant Physical Therapy Site Coordinator at our Kettle Point Campus in East Providence. Terry received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Vermont where she played 4 years of Division 1 Field Hockey. She has worked at University Orthopedics for over 20 years in the area of outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation. She has given her time to many school athletic programs over the years. She currently assists with sports medicine coverage for the Bishop Hendricken High School football team and has done so since 1998. Terry also spent many years working and traveling with the University of Rhode Island's Men's Ice Hockey team. She is the coordinator of the yearly pre-participation exams offered by UOI for local athletes of all ages.  Terry has experience treating professional, collegiate and high school athletes throughout the region.

Jason Sousa is a physical therapist assistant at our Kettle Point Campus. He received an Associates degree in Applied Science from the Physical Therapy Assistant program at the Community College of Rhode Island. Jason has been employed by University Orthopedics since 1996. His clinical interest is in the rehabilitation of orthopaedic and sports medicine injuries.

Physical Therapist - Joe DeOrsey

Joe DeOrsey is Physical Therapy Site Coordinator for our East Greenwich office. Joe received a Masters of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1998. He has over 15 years of physical therapy experience and has been with University Orthopedics for over 12 years. Joe's interest and clinical expertise is in rehabilitation of surgical and non surgical knee and shoulder injuries. He also has a strong interest in the rehabilitation of patients with throwing and basketball related injuries.

Physical Therapist - Stephen Cinquegrana

Stephen Cinquegrana is a physical therapist at our East Greenwich office. He received a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of New England. Steve also received a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from the University of Rhode Island. His clinical interests span orthopedics and sports physical therapy in adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. He is also interested in combat biomechanics.

Kelly Bettez DeSimone is a Physical Therapist at our location in East Greenwich. Kelly received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education-Fitness and her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Rhode Island. She has been working as a physical therapist since 1993 in inpatient, outpatient and aquatic physical therapy. She has lectured and trained instructors for the Southern New England Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation since 1992. Kelly is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist. She joined University Orthopedics in 2005 and her clinical interests include sports medicine, orthopedics and arthritis of the shoulder, knee, foot, ankle and spine.

Physical Therapist - Allison Kosiorek

Allison Kosiorek is a Physical Therapist at our East Greenwich office. She graduated in 2013 with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Boston University, and 2008 with her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Colby-Sawyer College. Her clinical interests include pre-operative and post-operative orthopedic surgery and overuse injuries of the shoulder in adolescents and adults.

His previous clinical experience includes inpatient rehabilitation at the Total Joint Center in The Miriam Hospital and sports orthopedics at Physiotherapy Associates Scottsdale Sports Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. Mike's clinical interests include pre- and post-operative orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, and dry needling.

Eric Murphy has been a physical therapist in our East Greenwich office since 2008 and a certified Golf Fitness Instructor through the Titleist Performance Institute since 2011. Eric received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University. He went on to receive a Masters of Science degree in Health Services Administration from Salve Regina University. Eric has worked for over 10 years in outpatient rehabilitation. His clinical interests include golf related fitness and injuries.

Physical Therapist Assistant - Frances DeMello

Frances DeMello is a physical therapist assistant in the East Greenwich office. She received her degree in Applied Science from the Physical Therapist Assistant program at the Community College of Rhode Island. Frances has been working as a physical therapist assistant since 2002, and joined University Orthopedics in 2009. In addition to experience in orthopedics she has worked in a skilled nursing facility and in occupational rehabilitation.

Physical Therapist Assistant - Normand R. Provost

Normand R. Provost is a physical therapy assistant in our East Greenwich office. He has 28 years of experience as a physical therapy assistant. While in the Navy, Norm graduated from the Physical Therapy Assistant program at the Allied School of Health Science. He also received an Associates degree in Business Administration from The Community College of Rhode Island. He has 21 years of experience with University Orthopedics, and has been the physical therapy assistant for The Newport Gulls Baseball Team for over 15 years. Norm also has 11 years experience as a Clinical Lab Instructor for The Community College of Rhode Island in the Physical Therapy Assistant Program. Norm is a certified Fit Fore Golf therapist. His rehabilitation interests include injuries of the knee and shoulder related to golf and baseball and rehabilitation of total hip and knee replacement.

Physical Therapist - Ruth E. Gauthier

Ruth E. Gauthier is the Physical Therapy Site Coordinator in our Middletown Office. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from The University of Connecticut and she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Health from The University of Rhode Island. Ruth has been with University Orthopedics for over 15 years. Prior to joining University Orthopedics she was a physical therapist at the Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Hospital in Newport where she had a diverse experience in outpatient, inpatient, acute and home physical therapy care. Her interests include rehabilitation of knee and shoulder and geriatric orthopaedics.

Diane is a physical therapist in our East Greenwich and Middletown offices and has been with University Orthopedics since 2012. She received a Doctor of Physical Therapy from American International College in Springfield, Mass. Diane has experience working with pediatrics in early intervention as well as using the McKenzie technique for low back pain. She has a passion for working with young athletes and the post-operative patient population.

Physical Therapist - Kileen S. Urian

Kileen S. Urian is a physical therapist in our MIddletown office. She received her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University. She has been with University Orthopedics, Inc. since 2003. Kileen has worked at New England Baptist Hospital for over 5 years in acute orthopaedic rehabilitation. Kileen's interests and area of expertise are with total hip and knee joint replacement and general sports orthopaedic rehabilitation.

Christopher Gomes is the Site Coordinator at Dudley St. and joined University Orthopedics in 2016. Christopher received his Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy following completion of his undergraduate and graduate coursework at Springfield College in 2012. Post-graduate coursework was completed at Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions. Christopher holds certifications as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and as a Clinical Instructor recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association. Clinical interests are in rehabilitation related to the shoulder, hip, and knee for general orthopedic and acute post-surgical care. In addition to being a clinician at University Orthopedics, Christopher serves as a physical therapist for The Miriam Hospital’s Total Joint Center, volunteers for medical team coverage at local and professional sporting events, and completes presentations for local athletic clubs and sports teams regarding injury prevention and maximizing athletic performance.

Edward Wojciechowski is a physical therapist at the Dudley Street facility in Providence. He has over 18 years of physical therapy experience in outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation, and has been with University Orthopedics for 14 years. Ed has attended numerous professional conferences in orthopedic physical therapy, sports medicine, and manual therapy in order to provide the most current treatment techniques for his patients. Ed's interest and clinical expertise is in the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and post operative procedures of the shoulder, foot & ankle, and knee in adult and adolescent populations.

Physical Therapist - Dino Ciarniello

Site Coordinator

Dino Ciarniello is a Physical Therapist for the Center for Orthopaedics and University Orthopedics in Johnston. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University. Dino has been a licensed Physical Therapist for more than 20 years and has a clinical interest in orthopaedic rehabilitation. Dino has been the Director of Physical Therapy for the Center for Orthopaedics since 2010. Dino and his wife reside in Saunderstown, RI with their three sons. He is an avid sports fan and a Board member with North Kingstown/Wickford Little League and North Kingstown Jaguars Youth Football. He is actively involved in coaching little league and youth football.

Stephen GruppPhysical Therapist - Stephen E. Grupp

Stephen E. Grupp is a Physical Therapist for the Center for Orthopaedics and University Orthopedics in Johnston. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed his undergraduate degrees in Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at New Mexico State University. Prior to college Steve served in the United States Army. Steve has been a licensed Physical Therapist for almost 20 years. He has a clinical interest in orthopaedic rehabilitation. Steve has continued his professional development through various seminars ranging from spinal, sports medicine, and joint rehabilitation. Steve and his wife, a professor at Providence College, reside in Burrillville, RI with their son and daughter. Steve enjoys traveling, ice-skating on his home ice rink and listening to all genres of music.
