Young scoliosis patient Emily Dugan shares her personal journey with the disease and her treatment she received by Dr. Craig Eberson at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in this patient-produced video.
Phoebe was diagnosed with scoliosis, a sideways curvature of the spine, at the age of 12. Her condition developed quickly as Phoebe experienced a growth spurt. At first, Phoebe didn't complain of pain or realize anything was wrong. Her parents (Dana and Todd) understood the importance of finding a pediatric scoliosis specialists. Dr. Eberson graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and subsequently from Rutgers Medical School in New Jersey. He completed an Orthopedic Residency and Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship at Brown University, followed by a Pediatric Orthopedic Fellowship at The Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Currently, he is a Professor of Orthopedics at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where he also serves as the Vice Chairman for Education in the Department of Orthopedics and the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Orthopedics. His practice focuses on pediatric spinal deformity, as well as pediatric orthopedic trauma, neuromuscular conditions, and pediatric foot deformity. He is passionate about education, having previously served as Orthopedic Residency Program Director at Brown, as well as having lectured and led faculty development activities at multiple institutions nationally. He has lectured nationally and internationally on topics as diverse as giving feedback in an academic setting, caring for pediatric orthopedic trauma, the treatment of early onset scoliosis and scoliosis associated with spinal cord or spinal fluid abnormalities, as well as other topics. While not at work, he enjoys the outdoors (biking, hiking, fly fishing) and traveling with his wife and three sons.
Fellowship in Pediatric and Adult Orthopaedic Trauma at Brown University. He completed his training within a year at the renowned Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, TX, where he served as the Edwards Fellow in Pediatric Orthopaedics and Scoliosis.
