The Mark Palumbo Memorial 5k to benefit the Tomorrow Fund will be held on Sunday, September 19th at 9:00 a.m.  The start and finish line for this scenic 3.1 mile road race will be on the campus of the University Orthopedics Kettle Point location.

Registration will be limited to the first 300 participants and we anticipate this race to see out quickly.  This event is open to all levels of runners and walkers and will feature a waved start.  Competitive runners are asked to join the first wave.  Walkers and joggers using strollers are asked to start in the final wave to allow for less congestion on the course.

Event Overview

University Orthopedics is pleased to announce The University Orthopedics 5K will now be called The Mark Palumbo Memorial 5K. The event, open to runners and walkers alike, will be held on Sunday, September 19th, 2021.

Each year, the race raises money for a local charity with the proceeds from this year’s race going to The Tomorrow Fund - a non-profit organization which provides financial and emotional support for children being treated for cancer at Hasbro Children’s Hospital and their families.

Dr. Mark Palumbo, a renowned spine surgeon, passed away in September 2019. He was not only a beloved member of the University Orthopedics family, he was a highly regarded pillar of the community.

“Dr. Palumbo improved the lives of countless patients throughout his esteemed career.  He was not only an accomplished surgeon but a true leader and someone who inspired many in the field of medicine," said University Orthopedics’ President Dr. Edward Akelman.

The race starts and finishes at the new University Orthopedics Kettle Point Avenue campus and runs along the East Bay Bike Path, with waterside running and views of the Providence skyline throughout. The timed road race starts at 9:00 AM and is open to runners and walkers of all speeds. For safety reasons, pets are not allowed on the course.
