Stephen B. Gross , MD, is a board-certified Adult Reconstruction Orthopedic Surgeon with a special focus on direct anterior total hip replacement, complex total hip replacements, partial knee replacements, total knee replacements and periprosthetic fractures and infections.
Dr. Gross attended the University of Vermont where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He then attended medical school at the Dartmouth Medical School. After medical school, he went to University of Pennsylvania for his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery followed by three years as a orthopedic surgeon for Center of Musculoskeletal care at Yale University.
Dr. Gross was the solo owner and orthopedic surgeon at Ninigert Orthopedics in Westerly for 17 years and was a partner with Active Orthopedics Associates in Westerly for 8 years. Dr. Gross was also a Major and Orthopedic Surgeon for the United States Air Force for four years.

Matthew is a board-certified acute care nurse practitioner to Dr. Stephen Gross at the Westerly University Orthopedics location. In his role he focuses on the assessment and treatment of knee and hip disorders as well as other general orthopedic disorders.
Matthew was born and raised in Rhode Island. He initially received his undergraduate at Elmira College in 2013 before completing his MSN at Rhode Island College in 2018 and is certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Prior to transitioning to his role at University Orthopedics, Matthew worked in a hospitalist role at a large inner-city hospital in Rhode Island.
In his role as a board-certified acute care nurse practitioner, Matthew’s responsibilities include evaluation and treatment of soft tissue, bone and joint disorders most specifically of the hip and knee. He also orders and interprets diagnostic imaging and laboratory testing, as well as performs in-office procedures such as joint injections and aspirations. Matthew also frequently assists his physician in the operative setting assisting in the pre-operative, intraoperative and post-operative setting. He thoroughly enjoys interacting with patients and providing them with exceptional patient care. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his big yellow lab, Chance.
